Charity Briefing Winter 2016
Welcome to the Winter edition of Charity Briefing.
In this edition we look at the Charity Commission’s changes in power and the implications for finance directors and trustees, as well as providing a summary into their recent review of charity accounts, which resulted in the publication of an ‘accounts monitoring report.’
This issue touches on a number of tax topics, such as an overview of the Apprenticeship Levy due to be introduced from April 2017, the Common Reporting Standard which came into force in January 2016, the current focus of HMRC into false self-employment and salary sacrifice.
Our VAT Partner, Phil Salmon, provides some insight into a couple of recent VAT cases which have attracted commentary in the tax and charity press, encouraging charities to be mindful of recent Court verdicts which may impact their tax structuring going forward.
We are pleased that this year Cazenove are our partner organisation, along with Farrer & Co in delivering the Trustee Training series. Details of the dates and sessions planned are included in the events section at the back of this Briefing.
