David is a Chartered Accountant at haysmacintyre and provides audit and related financial services to charities and other not for profit organisations.
He trained in Suffolk before working with what is now Ernst & Young in London and Sydney. On returning to the UK, David joined Merrill Lynch’s Internal Audit department based in London but working much of the time overseas and focusing on new systems and controls following the 'Big Bang'. After obtaining an MBA from Cranfield in 1988, he joined the Schools and Charities team at one of our predecessor firms and became a partner in 1990.
David is actively involved in audit and related financial advisory services, including addressing boards of trustees on financial planning, monitoring and governance issues and in connection with our specialist services such as employment taxes, commercial trading and VAT. His work with independent schools includes advising boards of governors on public benefit and fundraising issues, and he advises and assists religious congregations and other faith charities with the restructuring of their activities.
He is a regular speaker at sector conferences and writes for various publications. He is also a governor of an independent boarding school and a volunteer for a medical relief charity.
David is a member of hockey and tennis clubs and occasionally turns out for two cricket teams; this is when he isn’t mending fences to restrain an inquisitive puppy!
