David is a general practice Partner at haysmacintyre with many years' experience of advising businesses and private individuals.
David previously headed our Property unit and now acts as its senior adviser. He has expertise in structuring corporate transactions and reorganisations (property and non property related), from both an accounting and tax viewpoint and considering the implications for a company and its shareholders.
He has dealt as reporting accountant for flotations, acquisitions and disposals for both public and private companies. In addition, he has taken responsibility on behalf of clients for detailed negotiations with vendors or purchasers in dealing with the structure of the purchase and sale of companies. David's skills and experience are based on the interaction of shareholder and corporate taxation and the need to adopt a combined approach to tax planning. It is here that his vast and broad-based experience gained from before and during two recessions can be put to full use.
A substantial part of David's portfolio is advising private clients, both UK domiciled and non domiciliaries. The experience gained over many years dealing with family companies and their shareholders from more than one generation means that David is ideally placed to advice on moving wealth down the generations.
David also has considerable experience of cross border issues from both an accounting and taxation perspective. From 2001 to 2018 he was a Director of MSI Global Alliance, an international association of independent professional firms with some 250 firms in over 100 countries worldwide, In this role he gained a considerable contact base of accountants and other professionals worldwide.
As a lifelong, passionate and moderately successful racing sailor, David is involved in the administration of the sport on both a professional and voluntary level. He has for some years been a volunteer Harbour Commissioner for a south coast port having and now chairs this public body.
