HMRC consults on taxation of non-resident landlords
HMRC consults on transfer of non-resident landlord companies to Corporation Tax regime
April 2017 sees the introduction of interest restriction and loss reform for companies subject to Corporation Tax. These changes do not apply to Income Tax.
Non-UK resident companies which operate a rental property business in the UK are subject to Income Tax on their profits and those with residential property are also subject to Non-Resident Capital Gains Tax on property disposals. HMRC has opened a consultation exploring the case and options for bringing these companies within the scope of Corporation Tax.
The consultation closes on 9 June 2017, with HMRC’s response to published in the autumn.
