haysmacintyre partner with Hospice UK on the Hospice Accounts report 2014

22nd October 2014

We are pleased to announce that haysmacintyre has worked with Hospice UK to produce this year’s Hospice Accounts Report, bringing together the accounts of 186 independent voluntary hospices in the UK.

This year’s report is testament to the size and scope of the independent hospice movement and includes analysis on income, donations and legacies, funding, reserves and return on investments. Richard Weaver, Head of Charities and Not for Profit, commented, ‘the hospice movement is one of the most successful models of community-led care and has developed ground breaking services throughout its history’.

The report can be used by hospice staff and trustees to benchmark their organisation against others of the same size or in the same area. Some key findings include:

  • Average levels of statutory funding for adult hospices in England account for 32% of expenditure, in Wales it is considerably lower at 19%, whilst in Northern Ireland it accounts for 33% and in Scotland 39% of expenditure.
  • Local communities and businesses are vital sources of support to hospices with 64% of income coming from donations, legacies and trading in adult hospices and 78% in children’s hospices.
  • Including the national charities running hospice services, the hospice sector in the UK now represents over £1billion in income per year.
