With over a quarter of our practice focusing on the needs of the NFP sector and over 550 NFP/charity clients we are regarded as a leading adviser in this specialist market.
The multi-disciplinary charities team - comprising seven dedicated partners and over 60 staff (including 10 specialist charity managers) - has extensive sector experience working for a diverse range of not for profit organisations including general, grant making, service providing, fund-raising charities, schools, membership and professional associations, sports organisations, clubs and livery companies.
Services include audit and assurance, tax compliance and advice as well as a variety of other advisory services such as company secretarial, employer support, information technology, trustee training, PAYE health checks and Gift Aid audits. haysmacintyre also has VAT and financial planning specialists with in-depth knowledge of the not-for-profit sectors. Consultancy services include: improving financial reporting, guidance on strategic and operational planning, governance reviews, benchmarking, change management, merger support, establishing internal audit functions, preparing for Charity Commission visits, risk assessment processes and senior finance team recruitment.
We also have consultants – Les Jones and David Clark - who provide additional support and advice to our clients as required.
Les Jones OBE is a consultant within the charities unit. Until recently Les was Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Finance and Resources at WWF-UK and Deputy Chairman of the Charity Finance Directors’ Group. He has also been Acting Chief Executive of WWF-UK and its Director of Fundraising. He is currently Honorary Treasurer of several charities. Les Jones is the Executive Director of the Charities Consortium and he has also been involved in developing SORP 2005 examples with the Charity Commission.
David Clark has worked exclusively with faith charities over the last 17 years, 15 of which were as a partner at haysmacintyre. He has experience of working with a wide range of Christian organisations both as auditor and as accountant and financial adviser. He was instrumental in drawing up a set of guidance notes on the application of the Charities SORP to religious order charities published with Charity Commission approval. As accountant and financial adviser to large long-standing charities, with complex fund structures, David has been heavily involved in strategic reviews of funds.
For our clients, we operate an active schedule of seminars and briefing events covering topics of general interest to the NFP sector – such as the new SORP – and events focusing on the needs of particular sectors such as schools, religious and membership organisations. Many of these events are available to non-clients of the firm. There is also a regular newsletter covering a range of financial, management and other issues relevant to the sector and this usually contains material contributed from leading members of the NFP community.
Our work includes contributing to issues at sector body level, writing articles in sector publications and taking part in topical debate at public seminars and conferences. Such involvement has allowed us to develop extensive knowledge of the sector.
The firm has been awarded "Overall Audit Service 2007" and "Best All Round Charity Auditors 2006" by readers of leading not for profit magazine Charity Finance. This shows our commitment to the sector and our positioning as a top charity auditor.
