The Guardian Social Enterprise Awards 2011 - the winner

05 December 2011

Congratulations to Brighter Future Workshop Limited who won the Guardian Social Enterprise Award 2011. The winner was announced at the Guardian Social Enterprise Summit on Tuesday 8th November 2011. The annual Social Enterprise Award seeks out the UK's most promising social enterprise that has the biggest potential to make an impact.

The winner, Brighter Future Workshop, provides opportunities for young, disadvantaged and disabled people by providing work opportunities to recycle, repair and resell mobility equipment such as scooters, wheelchairs and lifting aids. The audience chose Brighter Future as a winner because they believed it was a genuinely sustainable business, delivering real social and environmental impact.

The three other finalists were Social Care in Action (SCA), East Lancs Moneyline and Moneyline Cymru and Big Bang Education. The finalists were selected by a panel of judges, including haysmacintyre partner Murtaza Jessa. The judges selected SCA as they liked SCA’s ‘disruptive’ business model and long track record of its sustainable services, East Lancs Moneyline because it showed great potential for expansion and delivered value services for vulnerable and disadvantaged people and Big Bang Education because of the potential long-term economic and social benefits to individuals and the country as a whole.
