Jeremy Beard

Jeremy heads our Sports Group which is dedicated to servicing the business and tax needs of companies and individuals operating in the world of sport. A key area of the groups activities involves National Governing Bodies of Sport, and Jeremy acts for the majority of the firms clients in this arena, ranging from some of our top Olympic sports to small recreational NGB’s.

In addition, Jeremy advises a number of commercial organisations and individuals in the sector, including sports sponsorship companies, fitness industry specialists and individual athletes. Jeremy is a regular speaker at sports seminars and has regular dialogue with Sports Councils and CCPR on business matters affecting NGB’s and sport as a whole.

Board structures for Sports National Governing Bodies

At last week’s CEO Convention of the SRA (the Sport and Recreation Alliance, which was formerly the CCPR) the majority of the discussion was around the appropriate board structures for what are effectively publicly funded bodies. The likelihood of greater public interest and scrutiny in the run up to the 2012 Olympics perhaps fuelling a desire for the sports sector to ensure that in this regard at least, everything is in order.

emergency Budget: economic and public spending review

Whilst our tax team concentrates on the proposed changes to the taxation system and our core markets in not for profit, real estate, media and marketing services, financial services sector and the like (see separate blog posts), others within the practice are perhaps more interested in the general impact of the broader economic measures. In my role as a Board member of the international association MSI I am particularly interested in how the Budget changes are likely to alter the attractiveness of the UK for international companies and investors.
