Blowing my trumpet and banging my gong PUBLISHED IN VAT

“Society frowns on blowing one’s own trumpet” said Michael Flanders, and regular readers (assuming I have any) will know that I do not use this blog platform for that kind of activity; normally. But here is the exception that proves the rule.

First, there is a situation to which this blog platform is clearly linked, namely the happy news that yours truly has been short-listed for the Tax Writer of the Year Award 2011. I am up against stiff competition, naturally, but hope that my plucky performance will carry the day. Even if it does not, it is an honour, and a good recognition of my contribution, that I have been short-listed.

And blogging (along with tweeting) is part of what has got me to that position. So it is what you are reading now (alongside a plethora of more traditional published media) which is to thank for this situation.

Let’s hope I get the “gong”.

But my title also mentions a trumpet. This is a reference to a conference I will be speaking at on 13th April where I will be making noises about changes to the VAT Capital Goods Scheme relating to Land and Property. It is an IBC event (www.ibc-events.com/VATproperty), and anyone reading this need only email me (gelliott@haysmacintyre.com) and I will send you the details. My involvement is due to recommendation by fellow specialist professionals. It is great to receive peer recognition. Perhaps the trumpet is being played sotto voce by my colleagues.

That is the way I like it.
